North Seattle Community College, Seattle, Washington
North Seattle is one of a few WOSTEP (Watchmakers of Switzerland Training and Education Program) programs in the United States.
In the 1940's Washington State financed a watch institute at Edison Technical providing retraining and jobs for veterans from WWII..
When North Seattle Community College was built in 1970 the watch institute moved into it's new facility.
In 1994 NSCC became affiliated with WOSTEP and started using their curriculum to teach at Watch Technology Institute.
Students spend 8 hours a day 5 days a week for 2 years learning how to manufacture tools and parts and repair watches, it is a 3,000 hour course. They are taught by teachers with many years of industry experience and WOSTEP trained. There is financial support by Rolex and local jeweler Ben Bridge who both have established scholarships that offers financial assistance to qualifying students.
Today WTI invites 12 students per year to begin their studies in watchmaking and repair. First they must spend one day in the class room and take a series of exams and meet with the instructors.
Watch Technology Certificate
The Watch Technology Certificate is 8 quarter, 164-credit program.
Watch Technology AAS Degree
The Watch Technology AAS Degree is an additional 28 credits in general education requirements for a total of 192 credits.
NSCC has an on campus Veterans' Services office and an on campus Disability Services office that will ensure qualified students with documented disabilities are provided with an equal opportunity to participate in the variety of educational recreational and social opportunities available at NSCC.
The office receives more job postings than we have graduating students. North Seattle graduates can easily find a job upon graduation. Also each graduate has the opportunity to take the WOSTEP exam for certification. This certificate gives them an advantage in the job search.
